THE SOY QUINE ENTERS THE WORLD SKIFF CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ULLAPOOL

Posted July 2013

Ullapool did a fantastic job of hosting the 2013 World Skiff Championships. Loch Broom really was a 'made for it' venue with the long beach stretchng out so that every team with their community colours could be seen.  The shops, pubs, restraunts and campsite were all within 5 minutes walking distance from the shore line.

A total of 31 teams entered and the Porsoy Skiffettes finished in 26th place, not bad going for our first 4 months in the water!  The Portsoy Skiffettes even got to the finals in both the mixed 40+ and womens open categories.  Teams shouted out for their own and cheered on everyone else, with extra enthusiam for those lagging at the end of races using every ounce of energy to see thier boaties past the finish line.

The Skiffettes had the best time and so did their men, as they all ended up in the boat clad in pink having a go at the sprint races.  Others also asked for a shot of the pink boat and we were delighted to have them on board.  Now the Portsoy loons have the bug they are crossing everything that we can secure funding for a second boat.  We can't wait for the 2016 Worlds to go back with a full men, women and mixed teams stretching from the 18+ to 60+ categories!

Special shout out to Coigach Community Rowing Club who came in first position to win the trophy!

THE SOY QUINE ENTERS THE SCOTTISH TRADITIONAL BOAT FESTIVAL 2013

Posted June 2013

The Soy Quine was entered for her first competative regatta at the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy.  The town were full of smiles as the pink boat arrived on the pontoons with quines singing their own doric song 'come awa ye rowing lassies'.  The shouts and cheers for the Portsoy Skiffettes as they pulled through their first 2K race at competiton pace helped them finish.  The Sunday racing was something else as the crews went out in a 2.5-3M swell with squeels of excitement as the Skiff showed how sea worthy she can be in the wildest Moray Coast seas.  There was a great feeling of community and the Skiff Teams from all over Scotland welcomed the Soy Quine.  We even got a wee trophy for the enthusiasm the team brought as new comers to the sport! Fantastic!!

Special shout out to Rowporty who came first position to win the trophy!

ABERDEEN HIGHLAND GAMES 2013

We took the Soy Quine to the Highland Games in Aberdeen.  We couldn't believe how much the bairns were drawn to the pink skiff.  Parents waited patiently as they jumped in for a wee shot of the oars  We met some lovely people from all over the world!
